What We Do
HoodInspect is a specialized directory for finding licensed, factory-authorized kitchen fire suppression inspectors across the United States. We help restaurant owners, food truck operators, school cafeterias, hospitals, and other commercial kitchens comply with NFPA 17A and NFPA 96six-month inspection requirements.
The Problem We Solve
Commercial kitchens must have their hood fire suppression systems (Ansul R-102, Kidde, Range Guard, etc.) inspected and tagged approximately every six months by a licensed professional. Without a current tag:
- Fire marshals cite violations during routine inspections
- Kitchens risk shutdown orders
- Insurance carriers may deny coverage
- Operators face liability if a fire occurs
Finding a qualified inspector is harder than it should be. Generic search results mix hood cleaners, fire extinguisher companies, and sprinkler contractors. Most have no license to certify wet-chemical systems. HoodInspect filters out the noise and shows only licensed inspectors who can actually tag your system.

Our Verification Process
Every company in the HoodInspect directory has been verified through public sources. We do not accept unverified self-submissions. For each listing, we:
- Verify the company's website and contact information
- Confirm they perform kitchen fire suppression inspection (not just hood cleaning)
- Check for published state license numbers (Texas ECR, California C-16, Florida FPC, etc.)
- Cross-reference with state fire marshal licensing databases where available
- Verify factory authorization for specific system brands (Ansul, Kidde, etc.) when claimed
- Document our source (company website, state database, OEM distributor page)
We link directly to our verification source on every listing page. Always confirm credentials independently before hiring any contractor.
What We Don't Do
We do not invent certifications. Some directories create proprietary "verified" badges that mean nothing to fire marshals. HoodInspect only lists actual state licenses issued by fire marshal offices and contractor licensing boards.
We do not create fake listings. If a city has no verifiable inspectors yet, we show an empty state and invite licensed companies to submit for verification. Better honest than fabricated.
For Inspectors: How to Get Listed
If you hold a valid state fire equipment license (Texas FEL-K/FEL-A/EPL, California C-16, Florida FPC, New York MFSPC, etc.) and perform kitchen wet-chemical suppression inspection, we want to list you.
Submit your company information through our Get Listed page. We'll verify your license and authorization, then add you to the directory. There is no listing fee in v1.

- How does HoodInspect verify inspectors?
- Every listing is checked against public sources: company websites, state licensing databases, and OEM locators. We list actual state license numbers when the company published them so you can confirm them with the fire marshal. We do not invent proprietary certifications.
- Is HoodInspect a hood cleaning directory?
- No. HoodInspect is not a hood-cleaning directory and is not a sprinkler or extinguisher-only listing. We only include companies that inspect kitchen wet-chemical fire suppression systems (Ansul, Kidde, Range Guard, Buckeye, Pyro-Chem).
- Does HoodInspect invent certifications?
- No. We only list actual state licenses issued by fire marshal offices and contractor licensing boards. Some directories create proprietary verified badges that mean nothing to fire marshals; HoodInspect does not.
